My First Blog Post: A New Adventure Awaits
Last update: 07-26-2024
Hey there! I'm Matan, and this is my first blog post. I don't have a fixed plan for this blog's content yet. But there's one big thing on my mind, a major life change if you will, that's coming up for me - I'm planning to move to Southeast Asia.
I'm really looking forward to this move :-) I can probably already afford it, as I don't have any plans for a lavish lifestyle, but I've decided to keep working a bit longer to put some more savings aside – more money never hurts, right?
I haven't made up my mind yet about exactly where I'll be spending my time. The main contenders are mostly Thailand and the Philippines, though I haven't completely ruled out Cambodia and Vietnam. I've watched a ton of YouTube videos to help build my preferences! There's so much content available, and I love it. You get to hear from different people and it really helps you build a wider perspective. On second thought... maybe not that different :-) These YouTubers making videos about living in Southeast Asia share a lot of similarities, and I relate to many of them.
Allow me to make a somewhat unfair generalization here – people who are completely satisfied in their home country probably won't make this kind of move, at least not long-term. It might be true that people move to Southeast Asia for any number of reasons (mostly financial and relationship-related, but let's put that aside for now), but if the incentive to move is worth it for someone, to me it's a strong indication that they needed a change.
And that's probably the main reason why I relate so much to these YouTube guys :-)
I'm not whining here – I'm in a good place in my life. I'm financially stable, I've come to terms with who I am, and I don't have too many regrets about the big decisions I've made. Yet, I am a bit of an outcast in my home country. Living in a place where your money stretches that much farther is a game-changer.
So, yeah, I'll have to see where I'm taking this blog. But this coming adventure is probably the biggest thing ahead, and I'm really looking forward to it.
Stay tuned for more updates on my Southeast Asian adventure!
